THIS ARTICLE IS IN CONTINUATION OF MY COMMENTS TO THE HOLY GITA, CHAPTER 2 AND VERSE 2

                                            EVOLUTION OF SPECIES AND CHARLES DARWIN

          We all know how the Old World, the European Countries, fed spiritually from the hand-outs of the Papal Priests at the Vatican, shook, when Charles Darwin, a long-bearded researcher, with deep-set eyes and an expansive forehead, which looked as though they were molded and burnished with a hardened  metallic finish, came up with a flagrantly anti-Bible theory of evolution!
          And the great scientist, Darwin, wrote and proved, with no room whatever for doubts , or for question his integrity as a highly gifted researcher, that Man had started off as a single-cell animal, and evolved gradually into the intelligent species, called “the homo sapience”! The result was almost earth-shaking, deleterious and instantaneous: for hundreds of thousands of faithful Christians’ belief in the Old Testament got evaporated. All the modern ills we witness in the European societies could easily be traced back and related to that one earth--shaking theory of evolution by Charles Darwin. Both the Old World and the US have become filled with people whose faith in the Holy Bible is substituted by an uninhibited materialistic pursuit.

       But, while a beautifully allegorical and that way original even as the Hindu Sages various theories about the evolution of the Universe and Its Creator saved the Indian people who could retain their faith in God. But the modern Indian youths also have become as materialistic as their Western and European counterparts!
      But there is an irony involved in this analysis: The Old World, that is the people of Europe, had originally started to lose faith in the principal Christian theory of creation, that  God created the world and all the species in six days and segregated the seventh day for rest. But the Rig-Vedic  and the Upanishadic culture and Philosophy of the ancient Seers and Saints of India have differing viewpoints on the intriguing question of CREATION OF THE UNIVERSE BY A COSMIC INTELLIGENCE! And their writings saved the Hindus of Darwin’s time from losing faith and become materialistic as the case at present! But, even now, they are no match for their counterparts in the Western and the European countries!

       The Old Testament writers and many Vedic-and -Upanishadic writers more or less concur in one sense; they both have clothed their understanding, intuitive as well as meditative, of the Universe in not readily comprehensible theories! They have written in allegories and in highly confusing posits and such other methods of writing. This brings to our mind the English thinker and writer, John Ruskin. In one of his Oxford lectures, “ The Seasame and the Lilies” he talks widely about the Great writers’ way of hiding the Truth as though deliberately, denying knowledge to the undeserved! For opening the minds of the great writers’ he recommends several methods whereby the reader gets access to the soul of the WRITER! And the Key to open the Treasure House of the Great Writers are profound scholarship, application, studiousness and FAITH!
        Here, let me raise an interesting issue for an intellectual debate: even the Bible-Culture-Followers of Darwin’s days had no excuse, either logical or philosophical, to lose their FAITH, almost wholesale, in the Holy Bible just because a differing stand was taken by Charles Darwin. Also, Darwin had his own TRUTH, excellence and basis to propound his theory on evolution of various species!
       Most of the words of Jesus Christ’s cannot be understood by a word-by-word reading, without running the risk of losing faith! Just for an example, Jesus Christ claims that His father has many mansions in his palace! According to Dr.Radhakrishnan, one of the world famous philosophical scholar both in the Indian Thoughts and the Western Philosophy,  this has a directly philosophic connection with the Hinduism that claims that there are different “lokas or worlds” ( different planes of consciousness)in God’s Total Universe. Prophet Mohammed talks about SEVEN SKIES!

      Almost every modern philosophers like Dr. Radhakrishan, to cite an Indian name, and John Ruskin, an eminent English Scholar, have cautioned the modern readers of Great Men’s Works against reading the without a deep understanding of the Writers’  mind; for which Ruskin says one has to have  the key to enter into their mind. Dr.Radhakrishan advises the readers of the Vedas and Upanishads to read them not with their knowledge about the applied Science, but with great sympathy and understanding of the distant days and time their great works were written. Could  a Rig-Vedic-Sage or Lord Jesus Christ be expected to have spoken about the Atomic Science or the Rocket Science or the aero dynamics, as we understand today? But they both spoke much about the kinetic energy in highly allegorical manner! Could they have talked about the Television and Computer and Ms Word?  In  “Seasame and Lilies” Ruskin borrows the key “seasame” from the Arabian Nights Story. “Open the Seasame!” is the 41Robbers’ key phrase to open the cave containing the booty.  Ruskin urges the readers to have the key, “seasame”, to unlock the TRUTH contained in the Great Writers’ mind. The original problem with the Darwin-time Christians was that they did not have this KEY, which is FAITH IN THE WISDOM OF THE GREAT LORD’S WORDS, AND WORDS ABOUT HIS FATHER’S CREATION OF THE UNIVERSE, ALLEGORICALLY DESCRIBED IN THE OLD TESTAMENT!. THE FORBIDDEN FRUIT IS ANOTHER BEAUTIFUL ALLEGORY. HERE THE TREE STANDS FOR THE HUMAN BODY, AND THE FRUIT IS HIS FRUITFULLY POTENTIAL ABILITY TO INDULGE IN THE SENSUAL PLEASURES THROUGH COPULATION!
        OK, why should the ultimate truth about the Creator and His Creation be hidden by the Authors of the Scriptures? Because, TRUTH has not one face or single phasing, in the sense;  what is truth in one context need not necessarily be the same for another or the same person, at a different context. This is true even here in our earthly existence. Then how could the Sages have been able to clothe the ULTIMATE TRUTH in as plain a language as the breezily written spy story?
       According to the Hindu Scriptures and the Vedic Saints and Sages, the universe is both the Thought and Body of the Creator! They call this universe itself as “Veda”. And, since they wrote about this universe, which is God’s Body and Thought, their writings were much later compiled by yet another great Saint, Krishna Dvaipayana Vyasa—in short form known as Saint Vyasa  (the Sanskrit word, vyasa means a compiler!)  as FOUR VEDAS! They are the Rig Veda, the Yajur Veda , the Sama Veda and the Atharvana Veda.

      But Darwin’s research only looked into the evolution of the species, and not that of the Universe itself, as did the Holy Bible and the VEDOPANISHADIC SAGES!
      THIS IS HOW, WHILE CHARLES DARWIN’S THEORY OF EVOLUTION KILLED FOR MANY THEIR CHERISHED FAITH IN THE HOLY BIBLE, THE HINDU HOUSEHOLDERS CONTINUED  ON THE PRESCRIBED PATH WITH UNFLINCHING FAITH IN THEIR SCRIPTURES!
     
        We all are informed about Darwin’s theory of evolution of species, at least its main and central posits.  And I should like to declare him as an imperfect and partially evolved Sage, among the Sages of the world!

        No Hindu would like to prove that there are some disparity and differences   among various Scriptural Writers in the fundamental way. The problem is how we understand them. There can never ever be any claim for, or, declaration of, any patent or copy right to wisdom, on behalf of the Rig-Vedi Sages and the Sages who contributed to the whole humanity the Principal Twelve Upanishads! On the other hand, we all know and acknowledge and agree that there were, even at the time of the Rig-vedic Sages, in Greece and Egypt, for example, mighty Sages and Great Philosophers!

       By any of the world’s sages the TRUTH has not been revealed in a non-allegorical, and in as plain a language as the full moon seen in the cloudless sky! So the Christians of the Darwin’s time had no excuse to have lost their inherent scriptural faith. Even earthy truth can best be stated only in terms not obscenely open and in a plain and uncultured and staid language and style! Truth is a many-faceted  GODDESS, and she needs clothing in different and suitable colors and very rich dress with ornate frills and cuts and designs.
      An Upanishad states that when a student asked his Guru about Truth, the Guru asked him to get near him and give his literal ears before whispering the TRUTH! The very word Upanishad stands  for the practitioner sitting near (at the feet of ) his Guru; Upa, a Sanskrit term means “by the side of” and ‘nishad’ (means sitting literally)! Both the knower and the hearer of Truth should have extraordinary wisdom. And Charles Darwin could be held, at best, to have revealed only the essential  HALF-TRUTH, that too, in a most plain language, and the result could be seen even now!
      Truth, for an average Indian, is veiled in illusion. Sri Ramakrishna, the guru of Swamy Vivekananda has said, that since no one has been able to utter about God in a way that could be understood by all, while all the Vedas and Upanishads could be described as stained by human spittle because of the memorization and oral rendering of them, still the knowledge about the “Brahmman” remains unstained by human spittle, because no one has been able to describe HIM!   
         A recent study conducted in Great Britton, as reported in “The New Indian Express”, shocked me  that the majority of the British citizens, who had participated in the study and answered the queries, were not aware of the fact that The Immaculate Marie is Jesus Christ’s Mother! And most of them were young men and women! We never read the Scriptures, but are busy in turning the Globe untenable and impure and highly harmful for the future generations. Darwin’s theory and a wrong application of the same by the faithful Christians of the time is very much responsible for this!
     Faith in the existence of the one and only Cosmic Intelligence is the core of the earliest literature known to the modern world, namely, Rig Veda! But it was propitiated by rendering worshipful service to,  and sacrificial worship of, various elemental gods and elemental forces!   But always Faith is the key; faith is the arm you can not only conquer the world with,  but,  MORE IMPORTANTLY, ONE’S SELF!  That is, with faith only we can open the FILE  FOLDER, WHICH HAS BEEN ENCODED IN RICHLY ORNATE ALLEGORIES AND PARABLES AND SIGNS! WITHOUT FAITH IN GOD, ONE WILL NOT BE ABLE TO START EVEN TO OPEN THE CODE, GETTING PERMANENT ACCESS TO OUR “GOD”!

         But the question is whether we have any ground and basis to form and access that key, FAITH, without hard and tangible evidence;  the sun up and sun down, the planets staying for millions of light years on course, the changing seasons, and not only this, the very personal mind that provides us with intuitive understanding of things, small and big, all are hard disc evidence, made out into the softweare of the sun light and the Prana, or shakti, or the rhythm or ‘rta’ all , the indeed every thing around us is filled with hard evidence of God! But, despite providing all around us and inside our inner person hard evidence of His existence, he has a knack for hiding Himself ; for this , among other softwear , He depends very much on our EGO! Only for those who seeks Him, He makes himself available. And there are many seeking methods; one of such modes is the system of yoga adumbrated by the Sage Patanjali and adapted and highly recommended  in the ‘Holy Gita’!

         Only this lack of FAITH had lead even great sage-like scientist, CHARLES DARWIN, to start his research of the ORIGIN OF THE EVOLUTION OF THE LIVING ANIMALS,  without first logging  into the SAID FILE FOLDER, “FAITH”! Otherwise, it should be categorically said that his theory on the evolution of the species and the Natural Selection is simply superb and most original. And the Upanishadic sages too indulged continuously in the inquiry of the creation of the universe with its various species with full inbuilt capacity to readily access the FILE FOLDER, ‘FAITH’;  for this reason alone, it should be acknowledged , with no room for doubt or controversy or differing opinion that CHARLES DARWIN is in league with those millennial researchers and Sages! Only they had  the some capacity with faith as the key, whereas Darwin did not have access to this faith-key; while he had a  fulsomely handsome capacity and studious scholarship, his search should be differentiated with the research in which the earliest Vedi Sages had plunge head-yoga-on!
       Now we come to the crux of the matter so far as this article is concerned: WHERE DO I THINK DARWIN HAS FAILED!

        Let us continue with my question, and posit about Charles Darwin, the great researcher: I am of the firm opinion that CHARLES DARWIN made his research half way from the starting of organic life, say the single-celled “ameba” and started to relate one species’ evolution into another! And he searched in a masterly manner and found out its evolutionary culmination, which had been thoughtfully brought about by the Universal Intelligence, in the Millennial and Trillennial course of evolution, with the penultimate mutation of the Ape into US, the homo sapience!  While his research and his findings are excellent, the starting point of his research commenced from a position, I would like to say, as half-way or from a point of research, mid-way;  and not from the Evolution or Creation of the Universe Itself! That research method was intrinsic-basically wrong! AND THAT WAS WHY THE BIBLE-CULTURED EUROPE had started to lose faith, not just in the Genesis, but all the beautifully allegorical expositions and expostulations and exhortations of the Old Testament! The High Prelacy of  the Vatican had laid by great store to fetch faith and implicit obedience and adherence of the faithful and God-fearing people.
      With the result, there are more church-going Christians in countries like India, while many stately churches in Rome itself are not filled to capacity even on every sabbatical day! But, that need not concern us now, so far as the usefulness of the theory of CHARLES DARWIN. Of what use would it be if you started your research from the effect, that too, mid-way, removed from the consequent research of the ONE AND ONLY ULTIMATE CAUSE, THE CREATOR? As a matter of fact, Darwin’s theory fetched as much destruction of faith as the Atom Bomb had brought into the very psyche of the people, the world over, the fear of instant wholesale death!
     So far as the Vedopanishadic Sages are concerned, the evolution is a continuous one, both from the points of view of the Universe and The Homo Sapiens!
      Haven’t you read from well-researched papers and book reviews on them? Well, there are many scientists who hold the view that Man would further evolve in his body in his millennial course of continuous organically gene-wise history as a well-developed animal. They even say Man, living in several centuries from now, won’t have as many teeth as He has now. Especially, since he hardly uses his animal-days-remainders like the incisors!  Low and behold!  According to several researchers, the FUTURE MAN might get to lose the cutting devices like the relevant teeth, while some bodily parts might get shrunk or totally disappear from lack of use. Even now we have an organ, namely the appendicity, which has been medically proved of no use whatever to us, except, in some painful cases, requiring costly surgical procedures! Well the Future Man might get to lose this organ completely; mmmm….! It would be mightily good for Him! 
      Whatever be the merit or otherwise of such research findings, which are, sometimes, fairly frightening to read even from a book review, according to the Hinduism, Man’s animal-body-wise evolution has culminated with an excellently brained species,( the Dinosaurs are said to have a brain- weight as low as less than a kilo gram!)!  Hinduism teaches that Man’s individual evolution would continue in his inner self till each and every man’s attainment and yogic-fetching of SALVATION! In Vedic and Upanishadic parlance salvation means self-realization. And it involves the mingling with the universal self. MINGLING WITH THAT COSMIC INTELLIGENCE! AND THIS SHOULD BE ACHIEVE D WITHIN ONE’S SELF INDIVIDUVALLY BY EVERY ONE! Mingling with that cosmic intelligence, which is both outside in the universe, and very much in to our own individual self and system! It has all been pre programmed; only we lack the “faith key”!  TILL THEN, BOTH THE UNIVERSE AND ITS ULTIMATE SPECIES, MAN, WOULD CONTINUE TO BE EVOLVING THOUGH AGES AND YUGAS!

       Dr. Radhakrishnan, who, incidentally, had a stint as one of the post-independent India’s President, has a theory of his own or an understanding of his own. According to him, the Universe was put on an evolutionary mode right-from-the-created-word-one!  And his confidence and fidelity to his proposition are firmly based on his encyclopaedic knowledge and vastly immense understanding of the FOUR VEDAS AND THE UPANISHADS AND THE BRAMHA SUTRA AND OTHER SYSTEMS OF HINDU PHILOSOPHICAL STANDPOINTS. He writes that the universe had started to evolve millennial years ago before the single-cell animal started to sing its organic song evolved into multi-celled creatures, occupying the land and the sea! That the universe had started to prepare itself for the reception of LIFE, on the planets like the earth, even before the Big Bang!  

     Thus the Big Bang itself was not the starting point of the evolution of the Universe! But one of the mid-points after the creation of the FIVE FUNDAMENTAL ELEMENTS BY GOD, OUR CREATOR!

      We have hard tangible evidence that millions of planets are still going away from the earth as a consequence of THE BIG BANG! So vast and immense is one of the five elements, THE SKY!  But the greatest modern scientist, Albert Einstein is said to have proved by his formula that the sky is round in shape, and not infinite! Then, if that be so, what is there, just what exists out of the orb of the sky in whose vast expanse many planets are still travelling away and away from the earth for all these LIGHT YEARS since the big bang?          

       That is why we have to hold that the great scientist Darwin’s rightly propounded theory of evolution, while having added immensely to Man’s knowledge of the Created Beings, its negative effect is a certain lose of FAITH IN GOD!
