VERSE NUMBER TWO OF SAMKHYA YOGA--THE YOGA OF KNOWLEDGE

                                                                             HOLY GITA
                                                                             CHAPTER 2
                                                       SAMKHYA YOGA—YOGA OF KNOWLEDGE
VERSE NUMBER 2:
Text in Transliteration:
kutas tvaa kasmalam idam vishame samupasthitam
anaaryajushtam asvargyam akeertikaram arjuna
Text in English:
The Blessed Lord said:
Whence has this unmanly, heaven-barring and shameful dejection come upon you, at this juncture, O Arjuna?
The above Text in English has been taken from the great book of Swamy Chidbhavananda’s. Now we shall see the text as given in Dr. S. Radhakrishnan’s commentary.
Whence has come to thee this stain (this dejection) of spirit in this hour of crisis? It is unknown to men of noble mind ( not cherished by the Aryans): it does not lead to heaven; (on earth) it causes disgrace, O Arjuna.
Comments:
Dr. S. Radhakrishnan comments on the term “anaaryajushtam”—as “un-Aryan”. He further says that the Aryans are those who accept a particular type of inward culture and social practice, which insists on courage and courtesy, nobility and straight dealing.
According to Swamy Chidbhavananda, the term “aarya” in our sacred books does not refer to any race or stock. It only refers to a highly evolved and cultured man. It connotes much more than referring to somebody as a perfect gentleman. An Aryan is one who scrupulously adheres to dharma. Manu Smiriti has it that children born of parents imbued with self-control and austerity are Aryans. The function of the Vedanta philosophy is to induce man to become Aryan in all rspects.
It is here that the Vedopanishadic Sages and Saints score over Charles Darwin. The later started his quest midway, and traced the evolution of the single-celled animal into the ape and then, Man. He started his research mid-way; not from the start of the universe before the organic lives came into being. And his theory does end with Man on a bodily level from that of single-cell animal.
But the Vedhopanishdic scholars started the research from the commencement of the universe. According to Dr. S. Radhakrishnan, the universe was readying itself for the ushering into the organic beings. So the inorganic and insentient helped the ushering of the organic beings! The Big-Bang itself was part of the evolution of the universe. And the evolution did not stop with Man either. With man only the physical evolution or evolution on the physical plane has attained closure. But the inward evolution continues. Those who are of base mind are not Aryans. And those who have an inward culture, and scrupulously follow the established tenets of the Scriptures are Aryans. So, we don’t have Aryans among the Brahmins alone. And the world over there are Aryans with the a certain inward culture, and un-aryans. Even among Brahmins there are un-aryans. So the term was not all about a sect of people or caste among the Hindus. There are Aryans in America and in South Africa. We should be very clear about this.
Next , the Lord calls Arjuna’s dejection and hesitation as heaven-barring. Because, going to the heaven and spend certain time enjoying the rest of the fruits of noble deeds here on earth after one’s death is part of Hindu belief. And those who are sinners have to go to the hell and stay there for some time, enjoying the bitter fruits of their sinful conduct here. But all should come back here to work out the rest of the karma. Purely scientific researchers like Charles Darwin have done much havoc to the established belief in the minds of the people of the old world as also the western countries. But Hinduism did not forsake the faithful people and part of the reason is Bhagavat Gita, which is one of the Trinity or Prsthanathrayam of the Hindu Scriptures, apart from the other Upanishads and the Brahma Sutra. The greatness of the Hindu scholars is that they were able to bring out the Truth revealed in Vedhopanishadic Writings through various Puranas and epics like Ramayana and Mahabharata so that the laymen could understand the basics of our inward culture.

For those who are interested in my elaborate essay  EVOLUTION OF SPECIES AND CHARLES DARWIN  which appeared in Google+ is added as an additional commentary to bolster my above points. But it is added as a separate text and posted in this domain separately.
